Questo tramonto non sembra neanche vero, ma vi assicuro che lo è! La foto è stata scattata a dicembre del 2013, poco prima di Natale, a Durham, in Connecticut.

Finchè la Barca Va...

Agli americani piace molto andare in barca, specialmente quando il tempo è bello. Dove vivo io, nel nord est degli Stati Uniti, molte persone che vivono lungo la costa hanno barche e barchette. Più ci si avvicina a New York e più grandi, belle e lussuose diventano!


Americans love sailing, especially when the weather is nice. Where I live, in the north-east of the US, many people who live near the shore have boats. The closer you get to New York the bigger, fancier and prettier they are!




Porto a Guilford, nella parte sud centrale del Connecticut. Il "parcheggio" per una barca piccola costa circa $1000 a stagione (aprile-ottobre).

Porto a Greenwich, al confine tra Connecticut e New York. E' una delle zone più ricche del nord est.

Beautiful Sunset

Questo è il bellissimo tramonto che ho visto stasera. Il ponte collega Milford e Stratford, due cittadine del Connecticut sud occidentale.

I saw this beautiful sunset tonight. The bridge connects Milford and Stratford, two towns in south-west Connecticut.

Frozen Landscape

Una cosa che mi piace molto della costa del Connecticut sono le zone umide o paludi. Andando a New York in treno se ne vedono molte. Alcune sfociano in delle baie che poi si aprono sull'oceano Atlantico.

A thing I really like about the Connecticut shoreline is the wetlands. When you ride the train to New York you can see many wetlands, marshes and ponds. Some of them are connected with bays that end up in the Atlantic Ocean. 

Queste foto le ho scattate dal treno questo inverno, quando le paludi erano ghiacchiate e coperte di neve.

I took these pictures from the train, this past winter, when the wetlands were frozen and covered with snow.

Winter Sea at Silver Sands State Park

Andare al mare d'inverno, quando nevica, è una bellissima esperienza, anche per chi non ama particolarmente il mare, come me.

Going to the sea during the winter, when it snows, it's a beautiful experience, even for people who do no enjoy the sea, like me.

Doyers Street - An Unusual Street in Chinatown Manhattan

Come tutti ben sanno le strade di New York sono ben diritte e formano una scacchiera. Doyers Street, nel cuore di Chinatown, è una delle poche strade che curvano a Manhattan.

As we all know, New York's streets are straight and cross each other. Doyers Street, in the heart of Chinatown, is one of the few curved streets in Manhattan.

Doyers Street è anche chiamata Bloody Angle, l'angolo insanguinato, perché è stata per molto tempo luogo di numerosi omicidi e risse tra gang.

Doyers Street is also known as the Bloody Angle, as it witnessed for a long time many murders and battles among different gangs.

The Addams Family Mansion

In America si possono trovare molte case simili a quella della famiglia Addams, la famosissima famiglia macabra creata da Charles Addams.

In America you can find many houses similar to the Addams family mansion, the famous creepy family created by Charles Addams.

Alcune di queste case sono state convertite in esercizi commerciali, come avvocati o agenzie immobiliari; alcune sono disabitate mentre altre sono ancora abitate, come quella che ho visto nel Connecticut centrale il maggio scorso.

Some of these houses are now businesses, like lawyer offices or real estates; some are abandoned, while others are sill inhabited, like the one I saw last year in May in central Connecticut.

Hiking in the Woods

Di solito pensiamo agli americani come un popolo sedentario e in sovrappeso. Ma in realtà gli americani amano le attività all'aria aperta, sopratutto il trekking.

Generally we think about Americans as inactive and overweight people, but they actually enjoy many outdoor activities, like hiking. 

Queste bellissime foto le ho scattate in autunno mentre facevo trekking a Castle Craig, un parco nelle Hanging Hills, a Meriden in Connecticut.

I took these beautiful pictures while hiking in the fall at Castle Craig, a park in the Hanging Hills, in Meriden Connecticut. 

Le foglie autunnali del New England sono bellissime ed il contrasto con l'acqua del lago rende il posto magico!

New England fall leaves are beautiful and the contrast with the water of the lake makes this place magic and surreal!

Cemeteries in the North East

Per noi italiani ed europei in genere (o anche asiatici) l'America è un paese molto giovane con una storia relativamente breve. I posti più antichi risalgono infatti al 1500 o 1600, quando i padri pellegrini arrivarono nel nord est degli Stati Uniti.

For Italians and Europeans in general (and even Asians) America is a young country with a relatively short history. The oldest places date back to 1500 and 1600, when the pilgrim fathers arrived in the northeast.

Tuttavia, ho notato che i cimiteri sono tra i luoghi più antichi e storici che si possono trovare in America. Ecco alcune foto di Sleepy Hollow, cittadina diventata famosa grazie al romanzo di Washington Irving, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

However, I noticed that cemeteries are among the oldest and most historical places in America. Here are some pictures of Sleepy Hollow, a town that became famous thanks to Washington Irving's novel, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Sleepy Hollow si trova a circa 48 km da New York City, nella sponda orientale dello Hudson River.

...but I live in Milford, a small city in the southwestern coast of Connecticut, with 54 thousand people.
